The big event of the opening was "Wake Up Santa" which took place starting at 7AM on Saturday...this necessitated us being up at 5AM to be at the Mall by 6AM.
About 200 kids and a comparable number of parents crowded around the set to which Santa had been spirited to through the back door.
After reading a cute story Mrs. Claus invites the kids to "Wake Up Santa" who of course springs to life, sings "Jingle Bells" and then does a meet and greet while the kids have breakfast.
It was fun though it would have been improved with a bit more theatricality (but then I'm not directing this show!) and organization.
Following all this the set was open for photos of which many were made. It made for a long, long day...14 hours. Luckily Sunday was a 'short' day....only six hours....almost a day off!!
